Assessment Services

Assessments may include:

Whilst clinicians working at Evolve Counselling Gippsland cannot make a formal diagnosis of a mental health disorder, we are able to offer a variety of screening assessments (for young children, adolescents, adults and elders) to indicate the possible presence of mental health issues such as:

  • Anxiety

  • Depression

  • ADHD

Victims of Crime Assessment Tribunal (VOCAT): The assessments and reports are for individuals applying to the courts for compensation. The Tribunal may make an award of financial assistance for counselling expenses as well as other compensation (such as home furnishings, toys, educational equipment and such). Reasonable counselling expenses include counselling reports, counselling sessions already provided or future counselling sessions.

Family assessments: These assessments aim to get a full understanding and unbiased view of the family—not just its problems, but also its strengths, values, and goals. People are more than their problems. It is important to determine, acknowledge and build upon their strengths and use the family’s strengths as the basis of the change process.

A good family assessment is holistic and explores all of the factors that may be affecting the family. This includes risk and protective factors within the family and their community. Families are experts about themselves. Using a partnership approach gives a family a sense of agency and control and encourages families to succeed, while assuring that appropriate supports and services are identified. A good family assessment will support clear, specific, and achievable goals.

Parenting capacity assessments: This refers to a parent’s ability to protect children from risk and enhance their developmental experiences. Usually a number of strategies are utilised to assist with the assessment process to enhance accuracy. Use of multiple sources of information, such as parent and child interviews and observations, and reviewing other reports. A key component of this type of assessment is determining parent’s responsibility and readiness to change if required.
